NEVER A DIARY, I HAD TO WRITE MY LIFE'S SCRIPT!
When I was very young I was surrounded by invisible friends... Talk about "Harvey" - I had an entire army!
As soon as I could write, I had to put down character descriptions and story-lines just to keep track of all the adventures
happening to me every day - and to sort out the personalities and my possible reactions to them.
The acts where quite multilayered as I was later told and my acting changed with the part and the ones involved.
Once I had the "tool", it was easier to put things on hold and return to reality for the sake of frustrated or astonished adults surrounding me.
Later on I used writing to cope with life in general.
With the depth of experiencing the challenges I had to face and the knowledge
that neither failing nor capitulating would be allowed in my book,
my feelings and the insecurity where translated into a series of stories which had nouns
as main characters trying to deal with a row of hardships.
That anybody understood then still puzzles me today, but it got me readings on the radio - with fan-mail following! -
and one of my stories was actually read at my graduation.
Today it's less tense. There is a lot more Humor. And Fantasy's back! Too much Fantasy and too many stories in my head...
I actually finished a "School of Writing" - the Axel Anderson Academy in Hamburg/Germany with great praise.
I sent in manuscripts after that and - like all newbies - was turned down.
Six month later I found one of my stories - turned into a picture book on a shelf.
Between anger and frustration I settled for a "never again".
But my BigSis (a well-known author herself) told me back then: "Well, at least it would have sold!"
All right! In that case - Let's go for it again!
Writing stories for children by an Author with lots of Fantasy and Humor!
